LASIK Eye Surgery Lexington Kentucky

LASIK  At Precision Eyes

LASIK laser eye surgery is a safe and effective way to reduce dependence on glasses and contacts, helping you maintain an active lifestyle. At Precision Eyes, we’re dedicated to providing advanced LASIK technology and compassionate care from our experienced team.

Our All-Laser LASIK combines two cutting-edge technologies to optimize results, often achieving vision better than 20/20. We use the Ziemer FEMTO LDV™ Femtosecond Laser to create the corneal flap and the WaveLight Allegretto Wave® Eye-Q excimer laser for customized vision correction.

Customized LASIK Treatment

On the day of your procedure:

  • We begin with anesthetic eye drops to ensure comfort.
  • The Ziemer FEMTO LDV™ laser gently creates a corneal flap, which is then folded back.
  • The Allegretto Wave® Eye-Q excimer laser reshapes the cornea in seconds to correct your vision, using precise technology to ensure each laser pulse is accurately placed.

With PerfectPulse Technology®, every pulse is controlled for stable energy and precise placement, minimizing visual distortions like glare and enhancing night vision. The Allegretto Wave® Eye-Q also has an ultra-fast eye-tracking system that automatically pauses treatment if your eye moves, resuming when it’s back in position.

PerfectPulse Technology

PerfectPulse Technology™ is an innovative approach to corrective eye surgery, designed to maximize speed, precision, and safety with the Allegretto Wave® laser. This technology uses smart energy control to adjust the laser pulse energy from creation to delivery, ensuring consistency and accuracy. With high-speed eye tracking that monitors eye movement 400 times per second, PerfectPulse Technology™ delivers each laser pulse exactly where it’s needed, achieving precise and reliable vision correction.

Eye Tracking and Speed Technology

Due to the remarkable speed of both the eye and the Allegretto Wave® procedure, the laser beam needs to be constantly and minutely adjusted to the position of the eye at any given time. Every 4-6 milliseconds, the eye’s location is measured, and the internal mirrors of the Allegretto Wave® are automatically aligned. Right before the pulse is released, a second check is made to confirm that the eye has not moved. This happens 400 times every second, once for every laser pulse. If at any time, the eye moves too quickly to be measured or moves out of range, the laser will stop and wait for the eye to move back into position.

Optimized Night Vision with Wavefront Technology

In low-light or dark conditions, the pupil expands to allow more light into the eye. Laser eye correction must account for this to avoid issues like poor night vision, glare, or halos around bright lights, such as oncoming headlights. The Allegretto Wave® laser uses wavefront-optimized technology to create a larger optical zone, matching the eye’s natural pupil size in darkness. This approach significantly reduces night vision problems, glare, and halos, providing clearer vision in all lighting conditions.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is LASIK and how long does LASIK take to perform?

At Precision Eyes in Lexington, Kentucky, Dr. Giltner performs Custom Wavefront LASIK, our preferred method for laser vision correction.  This advanced technology enables Dr. Giltner to measure and correct the unique visual imperfections of each eye, often providing vision that surpasses what glasses or contact lenses can achieve. LASIK treats nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism by reshaping the cornea to focus light accurately on the retina. Dr. Giltner uses the state-of-the-art Allegretto Wave Eye-Q Laser to ensure optimal results.

The procedure lasts about 15-20 minutes and is performed by Dr. Giltner.

Does LASIK hurt?

Patients receive a mild sedative to help them relax, along with numbing eye drops for anesthesia. Most report minimal to no discomfort during or after the procedure.

What results should I expect? How quickly will I see those results? How long will those results last?

Most patients notice improved vision from LASIK within one day to one month after the procedure. LASIK results are typically long-lasting, with most people needing only one procedure over their lifetime. Additional procedures are generally only necessary if cataracts develop later in life. Many patients achieve 20/20 vision, significantly reducing or eliminating their need for glasses or contact lenses.

Will I need someone to drive me home following my procedure?

Yes. Every patient receives a mild sedative to help them relax before the procedure, so you’ll need someone to drive you home. Vision may be slightly blurry afterward due to the sedative and lubricating drops used during the procedure. For safety, avoid driving for 24 hours following your LASIK surgery.

Are both eyes treated the same day?

Yes, in most cases. Most patients prefer the convenience of having both eyes treated the same day, but occasionally there are reasons that it would not be advisable.

What can I expect following the procedure?

Following your LASIK procedure, drops are placed on the eye to facilitate the healing process. After your LASIK treatment you will need to go home and rest. Sleep is very helpful to the eyes and ensures quicker healing following the procedure.

How quick is the recovery time for LASIK surgery and how quickly can I return to work?

After your procedure, you should rest your eyes for 24 hours. Usually the next day you can return to work.

Do you offer custom LASIK?

At Precision Eyes, we only perform custom LASIK. Custom LASIK uses Wavefront LASIK technology to measure the eye from the front to back to create a three-dimensional corneal map. The Wavefront LASIK device collects information by using light reflected off the retina and through the pupil, and into the device, creating your unique map reflecting your lower or higher order aberrations. A patient’s unique visual irregularities are contained in this map, which is then sent to the laser via a computer. The Wavefront map effectively guides the laser in customizing the treatment to your individual visual irregularities, producing a personalized LASIK treatment.

Will you spend time with Dr. Giltner before your surgery?

Yes, every patient meets with Dr. Giltner before their LASIK procedure. During this time, Dr. Giltner will answer any questions you may have, discuss your vision goals, and work with you to develop a personalized treatment plan. This consultation ensures that you feel fully informed and confident going into the procedure.
