4 Signs You’re Overdue For An Eye Exam

Whether you wear glasses or not, eye exams are incredibly important to your overall health. It’s easy to overlook them, especially if you don’t regularly have to pick out glasses or contacts. Failing to visit the optometrist or ophthalmologist on an annual basis can risk your eyesight and health.  Be sure to look out for these signs that it might be time to schedule a visit with your local eye doctor.

  1. Blurry vision: You may have had 20/20 vision your whole life, but the body changes. Vision problems can develop later in life, so if you notice changes in the clarity of your vision or struggle with tasks like reading, it might be time to give an eye exam center a call.
  2. Headaches: Sometimes, changes in your vision can be difficult to notice; many of these changes progress slowly enough that not everyone will notice them. Instead, look for symptoms that go along with strained vision, including worsening headaches or migraines. These could be a sign that your vision has been slowly declining.
  3. Eye-damaging tasks: If you’ve started a new job recently that has you working on a computer, or even if you just spend a lot of time in front of a screen at home, consider scheduling eye exams soon. These tasks can cause extra strain on your eyes and lead to vision problems later as a result. Your optometrist might recommend a few options to help counter the effects of these conditions.
  4. Vision correction: If you’ve had a history of less than perfect vision, schedule your eye exams sooner rather than later. You might want to ask your doctor if you’re a good candidate for laser eye surgery to correct your vision. Over 95% of people who had LASIK surgery between 1995 and 2003 were happy with their results.
