Doctor’s Rx Allergy Formula diagnostic test provides eye care providers a comprehensive system to diagnostically test for allergies that may be the underlying cause of ocular surface disease. This test, which is typically covered by major medical insurances,1 helps to characterize, or rule out, ocular allergies when differentiating ocular surface diseases such as dry eyes, ocular allergies and blepharitis which can have similar signs and symptoms. The knowledge obtained from the Doctor’s Rx Allergy Formula test results can help physicians identify the offending allergens and aid in developing a customized treatment protocol.
The FDA-approved in-office Doctor’s Rx Allergy Formula diagnostic test enables eye care practitioners to objectively diagnose and identify the root cause of patient’s ocular allergies. The three-minute ocular allergy diagnostic test utilizes a panel of 60 allergens2 that are specific to each region of the country and provides results within 10-15 minutes.
Because allergens vary by geography, Doctor’s Rx Allergy Formula engaged leading botanists to develop 39 regionalized, proprietary panels of ocular-specific allergens. Each panel contains the 60 most common allergens2 endemic to the region.
Developed by ophthalmologists, the Doctor’s Rx Allergy Formula diagnostic test, approved by the FDA, is a proprietary test designed to objectively diagnose ocular allergies. With a simple, no-needle, no shots test,3 eye care practitioners and their trained staff can objectively diagnose the source of ocular allergies to help determine the most appropriate treatment for patients in office. The company was founded in 2013 by Howard J. Loff, MD, a board-certified ophthalmologist and fellowship trained in oculoplastic and reconstructive surgery. In October, 2015, Bausch + Lomb acquired the company.
“The Doctor’s Rx Allergy Formula diagnostic test, launched a little more than two years ago, has grown to be recognized in the diagnostic allergy market. With many leading eye doctors utilizing the diagnostic system today, we are excited to be joining Bausch + Lomb to bring the benefits of this innovative test to even more eye care providers, which I believe will soon become the standard-of-care.”
